Description

Harm reduction offers a compassionate and practical approach to promoting individual and community health and well-being. This session introduces harm reduction as both a practice approach and a social movement, inviting practitioners and organizations to embrace a more holistic and human rights-based approach to some of life’s most complex issues.

Through engaging discussions and real-life examples, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of harm reduction principles and their applications in personal and professional contexts as it applies to substance use, sexual health, and other common "risk" behaviors.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe harm reduction as a practice approach as well as a social movement
  • Recognize at least three ways that they are already practicing harm reduction in their personal and/or work lives
  • Identify at least two strategies for applying the principles of harm reduction as it applies to substance use, sexual health, and other common "risk" behaviors
